Micky van de Ven found the net twice as Spurs extended their unbeaten run on the road in the top division and delivered Everton their initial loss at their new home.

The Toffees were unbeaten in their last five matches at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left their historic home behind after more than a century at the end of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader Van de Ven struck on two occasions from corners in the opening 45 minutes to place their strong form at jeopardy, and they were unable to mount a comeback before the midfielder - set up by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - nodded in a final goal to seal the victory.

Jake O'Brien thought he had levelled the scores five minutes after Van de Ven's opener, directing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an set-piece.

The Portuguese striker, meanwhile, failed to convert a handful of chances, while the Italian goalkeeper made a series of fine stops to ensure Tottenham went five away games without defeat in the Premier League.

But the VAR stepped in, advising Craig Pawson to review the score on the pitchside monitor and the official ruled that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

This victory moves the manager's side up to third in the Premier League, five points off north London rivals and leaders the Gunners.

The Merseyside club stay 14th and are six points ahead of the drop zone.

Spurs breakdown: The defender fulfils duties at both ends of pitch

Following a uninspiring weekday display in the Champions League against the French side, where they mustered a mere two shots on goal, Frank chose Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of ex-Everton forward the Brazilian.

The summer signing was failed to make much of an impact before being replaced for the substitute after an hour on the pitch, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the end.

Defender the Dutchman transformed into an attacking force to be feared.

Spurs' opening strike came from a cleverly executed corner routine, with Rodrigo Bentancur directing the ball back across the six-yard box for an unmarked Van de Ven to score.

And Ven de Ven - filling in as skipper in the Argentine's unavailability - added his next goal in first-half stoppage time as he rose above Jordan Pickford to head home.

Van de Ven was just as outstanding in defence, partnering effectively with Kevin Danso as the duo handled excellently with the 34 crosses sent their way by Everton.

Everton analysis: Everton missing striker's instinct

Everton's recent stadium had been a fortress, but it seems the novelty may have faded somewhat and supporters flocked to the exits after Sarr's third for Tottenham.

The end in the team's winning streak at home won't be a massive worry for David Moyes, but their attacking woes are.

Beto and the other striker - the Everton's pair of established strikers - had netted only one league goal between them before Sunday's outing.

And they were failed to add to that miserable tally on a damp and dreary night on in Liverpool.

The striker's form was summed up when he opted to overhead kick a clear chance from close range, despite having space and opportunity to reposition for a simpler shot that would have challenged Vicario.

Barry, too, failed to make an impact after replacing the starter in the second half.

It was not for a shortage of chance. Most of Everton's offensive moves came through Grealish and Ndiaye, who tirelessly whipped dangerous balls into the Tottenham penalty area.

Everton: The team head to the Stadium of Light in the Premier League on early November at 8 PM.

Spurs: The London club travel to Newcastle's ground on Wednesday, 29 October for their fourth-round League Cup tie against the Magpies.
